Special Feature: a4 Asks – Interview with Marketing VP Will Kunkel

a4 has a lot of talented and dedicated employees. To further get to know our staff, we are asking them some questions about their life in and out of work. This is “a4 Asks.”


Today we spoke with Will Kunkel, VP of Marketing at a4. Will is responsible for all of a4’s branding and visibility in the industry. He is based in the Long Island City, N.Y., headquarters. Here he talks about his hobbies and what historical celebrities he would like to have dinner with:


Question: What do you like about working at a4 and what is your favorite thing about your role?

Answer: I like the people I work with and the fact that we are doing something pretty revolutionary in an industry where things don’t usually move so fast. My favorite part is working on our campaigns and events because we really get to be creative.


Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Weightlifting, shopping and going to my kids’ basketball games.


Q: What person in history would you want to have dinner with and why?

A: Shel Silverstein because he conveyed really powerful messages with simple words and pictures and his stories are timeless. If he was booked, maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger because I am endlessly fascinated that a bodybuilder who knew little English became a huge movie star, married a Kennedy and became governor of California. If they both had plans then I’d have a drink with Leonard Cohen.


Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A: Free. My youngest son heads off to college in 2022 so we will have more time to travel (unless the oldest moves back in since he graduates college in 2022).


Q: Why do you think effective advertising is so important today?

A: People have limited time and even more limited attention spans. You have about 3 seconds at best to connect with them or they’re onto the next piece of content.
